Retrotation - The Dubstep Opera
The Easton, Pennsylvania-based producer Retrotation has only been churning out tracks for a little over a year, but what he lacks in experience he makes up for in soundscapes. Stateless - Ariel
With their latest single "Ariel" and first for Ninja Tune, Stateless explore the eternal struggle within all of us, the battle between good and bad, imagined here as a fight between the protagonist, the titular Ariel, and the Devil.
For the video, design studio FIELD recorded an improvised dance interpretation of Ariel's battle using motion capture technology, and digitally animated a stunning visual accompaniment to the original track's futuristic electronic soundscape.

That's a vocalist you should keep an eye on. Louisa Bass from West London is creating movements in the giant puddle of underground music. It's only a question of time untill all of you get to hear her on every '0815-mainstream-radio-station'. This is his 2nd album relase after his debut "Skream!" in 2006. Skream is known for rooting his origins and protecting original elements of the dubstep sound as opposed to plunging into the progressively 'filthy' depths. The real beauty about Skream's new album is that it can be enjoyed by even those who would usually turn a blind eye to the rapidly popular genre. This could well be the record that breaks the stubborn defences and convert the dubstep-squirmers into fully fledged hooligans. "Outside The Box" is a fantastic LP, taking in many different styles and genres on it's way.

The world's first Dubstep super-group. The coming together of Skream, Benga and Artwork. Three individuals and three of the biggest names in the game, of course. But as a trio.. They perform using three Apple Macbook Pro computers, one playing drum samples and loops, one playing basslines and the third playing lead sounds and samples. Artwork controls the master laptop, using Ableton Live, to which the other two are synchronised via midi. Their sets usually consist of a mix of original tracks produced together, and live remixes of Benga and Skream's tracks, accompanied by synchronised projected visuals by Novak Collective.

Electronic dancemusic has prospered and diversified the last decades. While in Germany Techno and House music have been the apparent dominating genres appreciated by the clubbers, Breakbeats and D'n'B just got particular attention. Dubstep makes a change and gathers Breakbeat and D'n'B heads, just as HipHop and Reggae socialized blokes and Techno lovers.The media hype on what-so-called Dubstep is not over yet, rather it is still growing. While established media is following the newest step, the most djs and large parts of the audience on a night would more likely cheer up to a ravy and dark halfstep sound, while a more garage or four-to-the-floor orientated tune will keep them dancing in the dawn.
This compilation wants to present some people out of the german dubstep scene. This compilation can't and doesn't want to claim the representation of all the variety produced in Germany.
But it wants to show that there are some people for which the production of tunes is a big part of their passion in supporting the emergence and rooting down of sustaining structures for low frequency music.

As soon as he was able to hear, lil´ Freezy began to get interested in music, recording and mixing. He started with all kinds of different recording and playback devices and ended up with a good equipped home recording studio in cologne, where he now uses his DAW for electronic music production. Besides that he has quite a history in DJing as well. At the age of 15 he joined a DJ-Team at the local youth center in Würzburg and ended at the street parade in Zürich a few years later. After moving to cologne he concentrated on live sound engineering & music production. Since 2009 he is back on the turntables to move the dancefloors.

Introducing : TOURETTE
Martin Peth aka Tourette is a German DJ, producer and originator of Dubstep parties. He has organized uncounted "Nordbrückenpartys" and the brand new dubstep-event called "KULT 140" at Kult 41 in Bonn.
As a DJ he acts like the prototype of a 'get-the-crowd-to-the-floor-demander'. He always arouses enthusiasm and forces the crowd to dance. Tourette is the sort of 'addicted to vinyl' and swears on the bass from the good, black gold. His deep mixes persuade by absolut perfection and a fine selection of tunes in his set list.
Beside organization and 'playing' with his turntables, Tourette is a true allrounder with several talents. You should not underestimate his producing skills. His tracks orientate themselves in the beginning of Dubstep and are often linked to the Garage- and 2step-roots of Dubstep. Tourette doesn't need 'the saw' - his deep tunes convince with their arrangement, the generated atmosphere and their 'move-your-feet-effect' or "Tanzbarkeit".

Benedict Steuer aka Bassador was born in 1984 in Germany with a beat in his head and a bass in his mind. As a young child he stays up the whole night to listen to one of the first electronic radio shows in Germany and then, after growing up, in 1999 he starts producing electronic music, influenced by the electronic rave music of the 94/95 's. Besides he discovered various styles of music like Hip-Hop, Reggae and Heavy Metal of worldwide artists. But he never lost the connection to the electronic music and it's fascination of sound modulation and creation. So in 2005 he discovered the magic of Drum&Bass and then, 3 years later, he gets hit by the power and deep deep strength of Dubstep and its rapid development. So in 2009 after years of skilled training in professional music production and sound designing he gets first worldwide attention by his remix of Lofana's Santaria Gold. Now he is producing various kinds of music like Hip-Hop, Minimal, Electro, Drum&Bass and mainly Dubstep where he tries to combine his many musical influences to push Dubstep specially and music generally to the next level. So watch out his forthcoming tunes and enjoy the music..
